The Weekend

The Weekend

The long weekend started off with Friday Night Lights… just kidding. We aren’t into football and we have no boys in this house, but I am sure soon enough we will be going to Friday Night Football games. However, this past Friday Night we were invited to play “night games”.

My husband and two oldest daughters went and played capture the flag and 007! They had much fun playing and running around.

I wanted to capture the night games but I only had my phone with me. I took a few pictures but I didn’t want to take them with the flash. I wanted the “night” background. Now… these didn’t really turn out, but I know what photo skill I will be researching this week and trying to get better at.

After the games our friends invited them back to their house for ice cream and cookies. Actually, I stayed with my friend and visited while the little ones played inside the house. We had a very good chat!

She introduced me to fermented vegetables.

Here are a few references I found online…

How to ferment Vegetables by Sarah Wilson

She had on her counter a crock. Her friend was letting her borrow it. I think it came from Germany. I found this one from Amazon… not the same product but very similar.

She was fermenting two heads of cabbage, some garlic, and onions. She added a brine which is basically 2 Tbsp of salt to 4 cups of water. {enough water to cover all the veggies} She topped them with some sterilized rocks and she lets it sit on her countertop for one week. That was all.

Doesn’t that look gorgeous?? In one week she will have sauerkraut, which will last in her fridge for several months.

Fermenting vegetables helps you get rid of toxins and helps you balance out your gut and keeps the good probiotic in you. { I am not to familiar with this subject as I have never even heard of fermented vegetables, and I am sure you can find a friend or resource to help you in this subject, but I wanted to share with you what I learned}

I am looking forward to learning more about fermented vegetables and having them on hand in my food storage.

Have you ever had a fermented vegetable??

My friend said her favorite was a carrot. My husband loves sauerkraut. I can’t wait to experiment with this.

I don’t know what I am going to make first??

After the game we came home and I finished the series Poldark. It was very good! I loved this Masterpiece Classic. I love the storyline and the characters. He is so very handsome! He has such a good heart.

Saturday I slept in! I woke up at 7:30. It was amazing!

My husband made breakfast… some Swedish Pancakes. I worked around the house and then I decided I wanted to make a stove-pot fall potpourri. I knew I had some orange extract and some cinnamon sticks, I just wasn’t sure what else to put into it. This post here really helped me.  I added some whole cloves, and nutmeg. I added some all-spice. It turned out heavenly! the weekend

My house smelled like fall. I loved it!

We ran some errands and then headed up to the Phoenix Cooks Show. I took my camera with me, but it was so crazy busy packed that I didn’t get any pictures. We just walked around and sampled a variety of foods. It was very good! My favorite was Fry’s had a whole big area with samples from all of the products that they carry at their store. We tasted popcorn, we tasted Boar’s Head meats and cheeses. We tasted some sushi and some shrimp, prepared right in the store. My favorite was the butter and the pickles.

The pickles… oh my goodness… they were so good! I loved them! I plan on picking up a jar next time at my favorite grocery store Fry’s. {sorry no image available online}

After Phoenix Cooks we went to a friend’s house to swim. Yes… we are still swimming here in Arizona. It will probably be our last swim of the season. The girls loved it. They swam for a good hour. On our way home we saw the most amazing cloud coverage. It was beautiful!

After the awe-inspiring drive home, I dropped my husband off to watch football on TV and I took the older two girls shopping. We went to TJ Max, Ross, and Kohl’s. We had fun buying shoes, and clothes.

My oldest daughter Bo tried on this dress and she loved it! To see the excitement in her eyes, and the feeling she got from a dress that fit her body type perfectly was priceless! My daughters are not little girls anymore and are growing up. They are beautiful young women. Bo has grown the most over the summer and we basically share the same shoe size. I think that is going to be fun!

Sunday was a day of rest. I pondered and studied the bible and some talks and came across this one quote and loved it!

I made some buttery crescents again and I am trying to perfect it and they still didn’t turn out. However, thy were better than the first time I made them.  I will keep working on perfecting the recipe. I hope to share the simple recipe when it works!

We BBQ’d some chicken for dinner with twice baked potatoes, broccoli, and squash. It was a very delightful dinner.

What do you like to prepare for Sunday Dinners??  Do you keep it simple or do you go all out??

After dinner I actually went to bed really early. That was nice, as I didn’t have a nighttime routine that I had to complete.

Monday brought a Holiday!  A labor-free day!

I went running and wanted to run 7 miles, but since I was on my diet {which I was restricted on my cardio workout} I haven’t run that much in months. I ended up with about 3 ½ miles. It was perfect! I can’t wait to run more.

I worked around the house and then we headed to the Diamondback’s Game. We had a blast! They played the SF Giants. My girls made signs { which they held up until they ended up on the Jumbo Tron} and enjoyed the game, even if we were in the nose bleed section!  It was a really good game!

We came home to my house smelling like ribs. We BBQ’d some really good ribs using this sauce!  If you have not tried it you must!  I served the ribs with some french fries, veggies, and a fruit salad.  It was the perfect meal to the ending of a perfect day!

How was your labor day??

We finished off dinner… played some games… and had cookies and ice cream for dessert. It was a wonderful family fun-filled day!

My sister-in-law shared with me a new site that is amazing!

I can’t wait to dig into…

Have you heard of Canva??

It is a simple new way to design, anything and everything!  It is fun free and easy to use. They have on the site pre-made social media quotes… like this one for free!

You can add different text and backgrounds etc to the free images. It is a super neat design site! I look forward to using it.

We had a wonderful weekend!

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a great week!
