Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix

Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix
sweet and salty chex mix

Hello Sweet Friends!

I know it has been a long time… I am sorry. No excuses… but I am excited to be back and share some holiday cheer with you today!

I am in charge of making a trail mix for our church sisters and this was the recipe that I found several months ago and have been saving it for the Christmas season. I spent yesterday buying all the ingredients and baking it in the kitchen. It smelled like Christmas. It tasted like heaven.

Today… I printed up the tags and bagged them up. This Sweet and Salty Chex Mix can be mixed up and you can add whatever else to it you prefer. I chose to leave out the raisins and or cranberries, but that would be good in it as well. Any dried fruit or chocolate would make it even better.

This recipe is a great salty one. Grab a handful and munch down. It really is good to balance out all those sweets. I only added sweet to the title… because of the addition of the chocolate to it! You don’t have to add the chocolate. You could just keep it like the original recipe…but we all need chocolate this time of year right?!!

sweet and salty holiday chex mix

My favorite part…. the butter snaps pretzels with the baked salty sauce over it! The combination of the chex mix and other ingredients make it scrumptious!

Like I mentioned… I packaged them up in some bags, tied a scripture found in book of  Matthew around it with jute twine and cute red and green string. I think they turned out great!

mix

I put about three cups of the mixture into the bag and added some regular m&m’s, peppermint m&m’s, and some mint m&m’s. I just mixed them up by shaking the bag. Tied them up and there you have it… a great Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix… aka my trail mix.

You could totally make this gluten-free as well…. if need be. Just buy gluten-free pretzels and don’t add the Wheat Chex mix or Chocolate Chex Mix. Just use regular Rice Chex. Add dried fruit and or other items that you prefer. { I want to make it that soon. }

Here is the scripture if you want to print it off. I just printed it off on some cute Christmas paper on the back side. scripture

Holidays are not the same without some type of Chex Mix included!

Hope your holiday is sweet and salty!

Chocolate Chip Shortbread

Chocolate Chip Shortbread

This is a very easy shortbread cookie that even your little ones can make and prepare for their mom’s for Mother’s Day. This cookie is a simple shortbread stuffed with mini semi-sweet chocolate chips served by your little (mini) ones!

Chocolate Chip Shortbread

Mother’s Day is right around the corner. I love being in the kitchen! Isn’t it true that…. Mother’s are the heart of the home. I believe the mother in the kitchen baking with her children can be the heart of the home, also.  I mean we are there anyway right?? Making breakfast, packing lunches, having dinner etc. I spend a lot of time in my kitchen. I love it when my girls pull up a 5 gallon bucket and put on an apron (that is too big for them) and ask to help me.  It melts my heart. My little one loves to get into the measuring cup drawer and pull them all out and play with them while I am baking or cooking. It is the sweetest thing…ever!

This Chocolate Chip Shortbread is perfect for them to follow a recipe, add the ingredients, beat it up, and bake it. (age appropriate of course)

chocolate chip shortbread

My girls loved making this for me! We were together… and I really enjoyed watching them eat it and dipping it into a cold glass of milk!

This recipe cut into 8 wedges make a great shortbread. My daughter Bree loves pizookie’s. She asked if this was one. I said not quite. It is different. But why not… scoop some ice cream on top. I am sure it would be fine and good!

Just make sure the kiddos bake it and serve it up to you. Isn’t that what Mother’s Day is all about… them loving and serving you.

I hope you enjoy this recipe… and let your kid’s into the kitchen and bake with you. I know I am a better mom when I let them learn and grow in the kitchen.

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

Today is Super Hero Day at my girls elementary school. For their after school snack I made them some Super Hero Muddy Buddies. My girls are truly super heroes in my eyes.

super hero muddy buddies

Who is your favorite super hero??

Mine hands down is Iron Man. Of course… that is because I am a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan, but also because it is such a well written, action packed, charitable giving movie. I love the relationship that develops between him and Penny Potts. I love how he creates Iron Man out of the materials that are only in the cave. Yea… I love this super hero.

The colors of super heroes and their costumes always seem to amaze me. Red. Blue. The most common super hero color and why not?? They represent good!
Now… we all have super heroes in our lives. Those that have sacrificed so much for us, for our freedom, for our lives and I am not downplaying the real heroes or even the movie super heroes.

But… today my super heroes are my girls!!! They go out into the world and stand for good. They are happy, bright, beautiful girls. They are my heroes.

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

My daughter Bo chose to wear Captain America. The other night we were sitting around the dinner table discussing which super hero was the cutest. My two older girls did choose Captain America. I really don’t like the movie or the character of Captain America, so I gave them a bad time. I clearly gave them my opinion on who is the cutest super hero… IRON MAN.

My daughter Bree didn’t have any super hero t-shirts so we made a quick trip to Wal-Mart to pick up a shirt. She didn’t have much of a choice, but Captain America it was!

She was up and dressed before 7am!! She was crazy excited for today!

She loves to wear red chapstick. She coordinates all her outfits with it.

It’s Super Cute!

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

I love my super hero girls!!

Sometimes… we may not feel like super heroes. But I truly believe that their is a super hero inside all of us!

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

My daughter Jane got to wear Superman or Superwoman. She is very adorable!

Now… onto the yummy delicious BLUE Super Hero Muddy Buddies. I made this recipe for my girls for their Spirit Week at their elementary school, but I know you could adapt it for any holiday or event. Maybe a spring get together, instead of red white and blue sprinkles add flowers. Maybe for a baby shower.

Anyways… lots of uses for this puppy chow!

Peach Crisp

Peach Crisp

Peach Crisp. A conveniently easy dessert. You can serve this with or without ice cream. You can cut the calories and top it with a dollop of whipping cream. This well-known dessert can be served with or without apricot preserves.

peach crisp

I want to share with you a quick story. When I first got married I didn’t really know how to cook or bake. I really didn’t. One night my husband and I went over to a friend’s house for dinner. She was an older lady and commented she hadn’t baked or cooked in a while. I remember sitting down to a nice meal, but I don’t remember what she made for us.

Except… I do remember the dessert. It was actually an apple crisp. I remember it tasted so scrumptious. I came home that night and looked up in my Betty Crocker cookbook for the recipe. I thought to myself that was really simple. Apple or Peach Crisp’s are a really simple dessert. If you don’t know how to cook or bake, but you want to impress your friends

make a simple crisp.

They will love it.

Chewy Snickers Bars

Chewy Snickers Bars

This is a  chewy snickers bar. It is made like a peanut butter bar, but topped with melted and regular snickers instead of a chocolate frosting.  These Chewy Snickers Bars are soft, chewy, and irresistible.

Chewy Snickers Bars

Chewy.

Soft.

Chewy.

Chewy Snickers Bars.  I remember when I lived out-of-state I would make some peanut butter bars. They were delicious. I made them for my nieces and nephews, for their friends and neighbors. Usually I made a big pan and they were devoured that afternoon.

I adapted this recipe and changed out the chocolate frosting for a snickers topping. I am so glad that I did. I love this bar cookie recipe!
