Straw Blown Heart Art

Straw Blown Heart Art

Straw Blown Heart Art is a not for the weak of heart. This preschool craft is magical for those who can blow into a straw!
straw blown heart artMy daughter is now 4. She celebrated her birthday a week ago. She is growing up so much. She loves to play games and do crafts with me… like all the time. Good….  I think I love it too!

Today’s craft was a messy one!

Her words: This is the best craft ever!

Straw Blown Heart Art

Here is what you need:

  • paper
  • paint
  • water
  • hearts
  • straw
  • paper plates/ paper cups

Directions:

*** please protect your work area***

Roll out a large piece of craft paper. Cut out hearts and lay out all over paper.  Add paint to paper plate. Begin by adding water to the paint to water it down to the consistency that you prefer. Cut a small hole in the top of your straw.

Teach your child how to blow into a straw if not already aware of it.

Blow away!

Let dry!

*** I tried all different sizes of straws and it really didn’t make a difference. The only think I liked about the smaller straws was that you could kinda use it like a paintbrush and swirl around the paint.

*** Beware that you could have a child inhale or suck up the water based paint. ( I know this from experience. )  If you are extremely worried you could use food coloring as your base. I know they might the bright neon colored ones. straw blown heart art

We had a fun time blowing away… but to be honest it was pretty hard for both of us. You almost want to treat it like a water-color  activity.

However… this was a really fun and messy craft!  We loved the valentines colors… pink, bright pink, red, purple, teal, and even a combination of them all!

I eventually just dipped a heart… and of course she had too as well!

I think I will let them dry and then string them up and hang them around the house. I love the look and the color of them!

I wanted to share this simple quote that I really like:

The object of art, after all, is not just aesthetic contemplation; the main object of art is an experience that entices us to better behavior, better doing. Art is there so that we may live better, not simply that we may look at it and have a private aesthetic and mystical experience.

– Arthur Henry King

I have loved this type of art for as long as I can remember. Picasso is one of my favorite artists. He was able to express his outlook into and onto his art… as does any artist.

I hope that your art is full of  HeART!

Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix

Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix

Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix
sweet and salty chex mix

Hello Sweet Friends!

I know it has been a long time… I am sorry. No excuses… but I am excited to be back and share some holiday cheer with you today!

I am in charge of making a trail mix for our church sisters and this was the recipe that I found several months ago and have been saving it for the Christmas season. I spent yesterday buying all the ingredients and baking it in the kitchen. It smelled like Christmas. It tasted like heaven.

Today… I printed up the tags and bagged them up. This Sweet and Salty Chex Mix can be mixed up and you can add whatever else to it you prefer. I chose to leave out the raisins and or cranberries, but that would be good in it as well. Any dried fruit or chocolate would make it even better.

This recipe is a great salty one. Grab a handful and munch down. It really is good to balance out all those sweets. I only added sweet to the title… because of the addition of the chocolate to it! You don’t have to add the chocolate. You could just keep it like the original recipe…but we all need chocolate this time of year right?!!

sweet and salty holiday chex mix

My favorite part…. the butter snaps pretzels with the baked salty sauce over it! The combination of the chex mix and other ingredients make it scrumptious!

Like I mentioned… I packaged them up in some bags, tied a scripture found in book of  Matthew around it with jute twine and cute red and green string. I think they turned out great!

mix

I put about three cups of the mixture into the bag and added some regular m&m’s, peppermint m&m’s, and some mint m&m’s. I just mixed them up by shaking the bag. Tied them up and there you have it… a great Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix… aka my trail mix.

You could totally make this gluten-free as well…. if need be. Just buy gluten-free pretzels and don’t add the Wheat Chex mix or Chocolate Chex Mix. Just use regular Rice Chex. Add dried fruit and or other items that you prefer. { I want to make it that soon. }

Here is the scripture if you want to print it off. I just printed it off on some cute Christmas paper on the back side. scripture

Holidays are not the same without some type of Chex Mix included!

Hope your holiday is sweet and salty!

Pumpkin Spread

Pumpkin Spread

This pumpkin spread is absolutely ahmazing! It is a simple 2 ingredient recipe that can be spread on any type of bread. It can be used as a dip. It a can be used in any pumpkin recipe. This recipe is my all time favorite pumpkin spread recipe.
pumpkin spread

If you know me and have been following my weight loss journey you know that I am addicted to any product of Walden Farms. When I came across this marshmallow dip... I knew it had to be bought! I decided I wanted to make a spread for some bread…. yes… I have had some bread, not a whole lot… and not with every meal but I can say this was worth the calories in the bread!

That is how this recipe came about, I figured adding some pumpkin to it was the right thing to do.

The taste is purrrreee pumpkin with a zing of marshmallow sweetness.
