Haunted House Mirror

Haunted House Mirror

Today is the last day of September. Every since I started following blogs I loved how the girls at Eighteen 25  have their Spooktacular September Series! For the last few years… I have followed along their journey and the posting of cute Halloween Ideas. Today… I am sharing my idea with all of you!

leader

This idea for a Haunted House Mirror came to me almost two years ago as I was running. At that time it was hard to find an over-the-door mirror. The next year I found the mirror and then we were in the process of selling our home and moving so it didn’t get done. Then… this year I knew I had to do! If I would post for these amazing ladies… this is what I would have posted in the series!

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

Today is Super Hero Day at my girls elementary school. For their after school snack I made them some Super Hero Muddy Buddies. My girls are truly super heroes in my eyes.

Who is your favorite super hero??

Mine hands down is Iron Man. Of course… that is because I am a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan, but also because it is such a well written, action packed, charitable giving movie. I love the relationship that develops between him and Penny Potts. I love how he creates Iron Man out of the materials that are only in the cave. Yea… I love this super hero.

The colors of super heroes and their costumes always seem to amaze me. Red. Blue. The most common super hero color and why not?? They represent good!
Now… we all have super heroes in our lives. Those that have sacrificed so much for us, for our freedom, for our lives and I am not downplaying the real heroes or even the movie super heroes.

But… today my super heroes are my girls!!! They go out into the world and stand for good. They are happy, bright, beautiful girls. They are my heroes.

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

My daughter Bo chose to wear Captain America. The other night we were sitting around the dinner table discussing which super hero was the cutest. My two older girls did choose Captain America. I really don’t like the movie or the character of Captain America, so I gave them a bad time. I clearly gave them my opinion on who is the cutest super hero… IRON MAN.

My daughter Bree didn’t have any super hero t-shirts so we made a quick trip to Wal-Mart to pick up a shirt. She didn’t have much of a choice, but Captain America it was!

She was up and dressed before 7am!! She was crazy excited for today!

She loves to wear red chapstick. She coordinates all her outfits with it.

It’s Super Cute!

I love my super hero girls!!

Sometimes… we may not feel like super heroes. But I truly believe that their is a super hero inside all of us!

My daughter Jane got to wear Superman or Superwoman. She is very adorable!

Now… onto the yummy delicious BLUE Super Hero Muddy Buddies. I made this recipe for my girls for their Spirit Week at their elementary school, but I know you could adapt it for any holiday or event. Maybe a spring get together, instead of red white and blue sprinkles add flowers. Maybe for a baby shower.

Anyways… lots of uses for this puppy chow!

This is a great recipe for Muddy Buddies or what everyone else calls Puppy Chow. I simply adapted this recipe from Chef in Training.

cupcake topper

The other day… I noticed on the front of a magazine { I am not going to mention the name} for the month of February they had something similar, except it was dark chocolate.  I think it is  such a brilliant easy idea to add to a cupcake. It totally dresses it up.

Now… for the cupcake I just used a box from the grocery store, but if you interested in a really good recipe here is one.

red velvet cupcake toppers

I think you could come up with any shape or word you would like to decorate the cupcake with.  Even if you print out a specific type of font, you could stick it under your wax paper and copy it. I think I will try that someday. I loved how cute this turned out.

cupcake topper

There are so  many options…and I am sure you could use any type of candy melt…. but the red velvet one is by far my favorite thus far.

Now I now these hearts aren’t perfect, the melted chocolate is somewhat difficult to use, but they make such a great cupcake topper.

I had fun writing and doing different type of hearts.

“What calls back the past, like the rich Pumpkin Pie”

John Greenleaf Whittier

I love pumpkin pie!!!  It is my all-time favorite pie. With pumpkin season upon us and the up-and-coming holidays… I knew I needed to make a pumpkin pie.  This Double Layer Pumpkin Pie… was different because of its double layer.  It has a layer of cream cheese…. then the pumpkin on the top. I chose a chocolate graham cracker crust… and it made the whole pie very mouth-watering!

Did you know that over 5o million pies are consumed on Thanksgiving Day alone??

That is a lot of pies!

What about the rest of the year??

I wonder how many pies are consumed… then??

It has to be a lot.

Well… this was a very easy pie to make and consume!

Fall Wreath

Fall Wreath

Fall Wreath

Today I am sharing my Fall Wreath.  I have two big front doors and several years I had made some wreaths with sunflowers. They are on my front door. However… I had nothing on my back door.

I had a foam wreath in my stash. I wrapped it in burlap and then it sat on my “craft table aka dining room table” for two days.

I lost my inspiration.

I thought about it and thought about it.

How should I make this wreath??

Then I came across this post… and I knew how I wanted to make it.  I had in my stash some wrapping paper that looks like newspaper. I found it several years ago at target and bought it. I love it!

fall wreath

I got it out and started making this newspaper pom-pom. I followed her tutorial pretty closely and came up with my newspaper pom-pom. I left it in a somewhat flower shape form.

Here is the rest of my tutorial for my fall wreath:

Fall Wreath

By Carrie Perrins

You will  need:

  • foam wreath
  • burlap ribbon
  • newspaper or newspaper wrapping paper
  • canning ring
  • orange spray paint
  • stick
  • orange scrapbook paper
  • green/orange bakers twine
  • jute twine
  • orange mesh ribbon
  • green lacy burlap ribbon
  • hot glue/gun

Directions:

1.Take your foam wreath and wrap the burlap ribbon around entire wreath. When you finish hot glue it to the back of your wreath.

2. Make your newspaper pom-pom following these steps. Fluff it according to your desires.

3. Spray paint your canning lid.  Let dry.  While it is drying, cut a circle out of orange scrapbook paper. I just traced the canning lid onto my paper. It fits perfectly.  Find a stick in your yard and cut to desired size.

4. Once canning lid is dry assemble your pumpkin. Put paper inside. Hot glue the stem onto the lid. Wrap bakers twine around the stem. Centering on the pom-pom… Glue the pumpkin to the newspaper pom-pom.

5. Wrap orange baker twine and jute twine around the wreath together. Glue into desired position.

6.  Measure a 3 inch small banner out of the green lacy burlap ribbon { I found my at wal-mart.} Cut it out.

7. Hot glue the banner on the orange/jute twine.

8. Hang with orange mesh ribbon.

fall wreath

I just love how the orange pumpkin turned out. I think it adds some festive fall orange to the wreath.

And that lacy burlap… Its gorgeous!

fall wreath

What would you make with it??

I can’t wait

to create more with it!!

fall wreath

The name of the spray paint that I used was pumpkin orange. That is fitting.

fall wreath

Well…there she is in all her glory!

fall wreath

I am really happy with the way it turned out…

especially because I was lacking the inspiration at first.

Very simple… yet
