Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix
sweet and salty chex mix

Hello Sweet Friends!

I know it has been a long time… I am sorry. No excuses… but I am excited to be back and share some holiday cheer with you today!

I am in charge of making a trail mix for our church sisters and this was the recipe that I found several months ago and have been saving it for the Christmas season. I spent yesterday buying all the ingredients and baking it in the kitchen. It smelled like Christmas. It tasted like heaven.

Today… I printed up the tags and bagged them up. This Sweet and Salty Chex Mix can be mixed up and you can add whatever else to it you prefer. I chose to leave out the raisins and or cranberries, but that would be good in it as well. Any dried fruit or chocolate would make it even better.

This recipe is a great salty one. Grab a handful and munch down. It really is good to balance out all those sweets. I only added sweet to the title… because of the addition of the chocolate to it! You don’t have to add the chocolate. You could just keep it like the original recipe…but we all need chocolate this time of year right?!!

sweet and salty holiday chex mix

My favorite part…. the butter snaps pretzels with the baked salty sauce over it! The combination of the chex mix and other ingredients make it scrumptious!

Like I mentioned… I packaged them up in some bags, tied a scripture found in book of  Matthew around it with jute twine and cute red and green string. I think they turned out great!

mix

I put about three cups of the mixture into the bag and added some regular m&m’s, peppermint m&m’s, and some mint m&m’s. I just mixed them up by shaking the bag. Tied them up and there you have it… a great Sweet and Salty Holiday Chex Mix… aka my trail mix.

You could totally make this gluten-free as well…. if need be. Just buy gluten-free pretzels and don’t add the Wheat Chex mix or Chocolate Chex Mix. Just use regular Rice Chex. Add dried fruit and or other items that you prefer. { I want to make it that soon. }

Here is the scripture if you want to print it off. I just printed it off on some cute Christmas paper on the back side. scripture

Holidays are not the same without some type of Chex Mix included!

Hope your holiday is sweet and salty!

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

Today is Super Hero Day at my girls elementary school. For their after school snack I made them some Super Hero Muddy Buddies. My girls are truly super heroes in my eyes.

Who is your favorite super hero??

Mine hands down is Iron Man. Of course… that is because I am a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan, but also because it is such a well written, action packed, charitable giving movie. I love the relationship that develops between him and Penny Potts. I love how he creates Iron Man out of the materials that are only in the cave. Yea… I love this super hero.

The colors of super heroes and their costumes always seem to amaze me. Red. Blue. The most common super hero color and why not?? They represent good!
Now… we all have super heroes in our lives. Those that have sacrificed so much for us, for our freedom, for our lives and I am not downplaying the real heroes or even the movie super heroes.

But… today my super heroes are my girls!!! They go out into the world and stand for good. They are happy, bright, beautiful girls. They are my heroes.

Super Hero Muddy Buddies

My daughter Bo chose to wear Captain America. The other night we were sitting around the dinner table discussing which super hero was the cutest. My two older girls did choose Captain America. I really don’t like the movie or the character of Captain America, so I gave them a bad time. I clearly gave them my opinion on who is the cutest super hero… IRON MAN.

My daughter Bree didn’t have any super hero t-shirts so we made a quick trip to Wal-Mart to pick up a shirt. She didn’t have much of a choice, but Captain America it was!

She was up and dressed before 7am!! She was crazy excited for today!

She loves to wear red chapstick. She coordinates all her outfits with it.

It’s Super Cute!

I love my super hero girls!!

Sometimes… we may not feel like super heroes. But I truly believe that their is a super hero inside all of us!

My daughter Jane got to wear Superman or Superwoman. She is very adorable!

Now… onto the yummy delicious BLUE Super Hero Muddy Buddies. I made this recipe for my girls for their Spirit Week at their elementary school, but I know you could adapt it for any holiday or event. Maybe a spring get together, instead of red white and blue sprinkles add flowers. Maybe for a baby shower.

Anyways… lots of uses for this puppy chow!

This is a great recipe for Muddy Buddies or what everyone else calls Puppy Chow. I simply adapted this recipe from Chef in Training.

Hey you want a S’more?
S’more what?
No…No.. do you want a S’more?
I haven’t had anything yet (hesitatingly) so how can I have some more {S’more} of nothing???
Your killing me smalls!!

These are S’more stuff.
First… you take the graham.
You stick the chocolate on the graham.
Then… you roast a mallow.
When.. the mallow is flaming you stick it on the chocolate.
Then.. you cover it with the other end.
Then… you stuff it.

I love that line! I love that movie! If you know me… we have been saying that line for years… your killing me smalls.

Here are my directions:

1. Take out some cookies and separate them. *Here in Arizona things melt very fast in the heat, so mine stuck together.  You might want to stick yours in your refrigerator.

2. Take your big marshmallows and cut one into fourths. Put them on the top of the cookies.

3.Transfer them to a plate that can be microwaveable. Melt them in microwave for 8-10 seconds. Yes… the chocolate does melt a tiny bit but not too bad. Put another cookie on the top and squish together, but be very careful not to break cookie. It does happen, trust me. Then stick a craft stick in the middle. Put on wax paper in a cake pan or something that will fit into your freezer. Freeze for 15-30 minutes. I froze my overnight and they turned out great!

OK… here is my taste tester, my daughter Bo.

She loved them! Yea!
Look at the yummy{Mini} S’more! Marshmallows, Chocolate and Graham Crackers, with only two ingredients.

Now… you can see how my crackers stuck together. I hope this doesn’t happen to you. But we did the best we could with what we had. Second… I tried little tiny marshmallows and they didn’t really work out. The bigger one was much easier. When you are squishing them the chocolate is melted and you leave fingerprints on the cookies, so try hard not to squish too hard. Also… don’t use a whole big marshmallow, it was too big and melted everywhere. I think you have to cut them into smaller pieces.  They aren’t the most attractive looking S’mores, but they are {Mini}, which is perfect for my little ones.

Go have some {Mini} S’more’s!
Yes… S’more please!
Enjoy your summer get-togethers.
